Fun Summer Activities for Dogs to Keep Them Active and Engaged

Summer is a wonderful time to enjoy the outdoors with your furry companion and engage in fun activities that keep them active, entertained, and mentally stimulated. Here are some enjoyable of our doggone favorites for dogs to ensure they burn energy and stay healthy, all while having a blast!

Doggie Daycare

Many of us have to work and are short on time, leaving us feeling the pawrent guilt for not getting to engage our pets as much as we’d like. That’s where doggie daycare is a lifesaver.

Days at daycare are not about staying locked up in a kennel like in the past. Now, the focus is on socialization and well-being. Meticulous care is taken to provide pups with an open environment that is safe and stimulating for the body and brain.

Dog guests spend their day playing with their friends indoors and outdoors, under the watchful eye of specially trained staff. They’re never bored and get the daily action they need to stay healthy.

Interactive Toys

Take your dog’s attention off of your shoes! Invest in interactive toys that challenge your dog's mind and keep them engaged.

Puzzle toys, treat-dispensing balls, and interactive fetch toys can provide hours of entertainment while also stimulating their cognitive abilities and promoting problem-solving skills.

Agility Training

Set up a mini agility course in your backyard using simple obstacles like tunnels, hurdles, and weaving poles. Teach your dog to navigate the course, and reward them with treats and praise for completing each challenge.

Agility training not only keeps dogs physically active but also strengthens their bond with you through positive reinforcement.

Outdoor Adventures

Take your dog on outdoor adventures such as hiking, camping, or trail walks in nature parks. Explore new trails, let them sniff and discover new scents, and enjoy the sights and sounds of the great outdoors together. Just ensure your dog is comfortable with the activity level and terrain.

Doggy Playdates

Arrange playdates with other friendly dogs in your neighborhood or at a dog park. You can also go to a cafe or bar that welcomes dogs.

Socializing with other dogs allows your pup to burn off energy, practice their social skills, and enjoy interactive play with canine companions. Supervise play sessions to ensure safety and positive interactions.

Obedience Training

Use the summer months to work on obedience training with your dog. Teach them new commands, practice recall, and reinforce good behavior through positive reinforcement techniques. Training sessions not only provide mental stimulation but also strengthen the bond between you and your dog.

Cool Summer Treats

Beat the summer heat with homemade frozen treats for your dog. Freeze dog-friendly ingredients like yogurt, fruit, or broth in ice cube trays or silicone molds for a refreshing and healthy snack. These cooling treats can help keep your dog hydrated and entertained.
